USF basketball appearing in NCAA Tournament bracketology

Date:

USF basketball’s eight-game winning streak has pushed the Bulls onto the NCAA Tournament bracketology radar.

The men’s team leads the AAC with a 9-1 conference record (16-5 overall) after last year’s Cinderella, No. 20 Florida Atlantic, lost in overtime at Alabama Birmingham on Thursday evening. That’s enough for ESPN to have the Bulls as a No. 13 seed in its latest bracketology update. Amir Abdur-Rahim’s Bulls, an automatic qualifier as the AAC champion in this projection, would play Iowa State in Spokane, Washington.

CBS’ Jerry Palm has the same seed and site for the Bulls but a different opponent: Duke.

USA Today notes that the Bulls enter its field because they’ve taken the top spot in the league standings. That publication has USF as a No. 14 seed with a first-round matchup against mighty Baylor in Memphis.

Coming off Tuesday’s 72-69 home comeback win over Charlotte, USF plays at Rice on Saturday. The Bulls have never won nine conference games in a row and haven’t won nine consecutive games of any sort since 1982-83.

USF last made the NCAA Tournament during the 2011-12 season under Stan Heath. The Bulls’ previous March Madness appearances came in 1990 and ‘92.
