Tottenham vs AC Milan live score, updates, highlights & lineups from Champions League round of 16

Date:

Tottenham need a fourth consecutive home win in all competitions to keep their hopes of reaching the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals alive against AC Milan on Wednesday.

The Serie A giants arrive at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a 1-0 lead courtesy of Brahim Diaz’s only goal of the game in the first leg of the round of 16 tie.

Milan have won their last three matches in the competition but saw their run of four league and cup wins end with a 2-1 defeat at Fiorentina on Saturday.

The Sporting News is following the match live and providing live score updates and commentary.

85 mins from kickoff: While we await team news, don’t forget to give The Sporting News’ dedicated football Twitter and Instagram accounts a follow.

Full of insights, stats and more, they’re as essential for football fans as Harry Kane is to Tottenham’s attack.

100 mins from kickoff: Tonight’s game is the sixth time Tottenham and AC Milan have played each other.

Before the first leg, the fixture had last taken place at the same stage of the Champions League during the 2010/11 season, when Spurs’ Peter Crouch scored the only goal of the tie in the 80th minute at the San Siro.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic played every minute of those games, but he won’t be involved tonight as he’s not registered for the Champions League.

120 mins from kickoff: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News’ coverage of the decider between Tottenham and AC Milan for a place in this season’s UEFA Champions League quarterfinals!

Defeats at Sheffield United and Wolves in the FA Cup and Premier League mean that Spurs’ only realistic chance of a trophy this season is in Europe, where they begin this round of 16 second leg 1-0 behind because of Brahim Diaz’s seventh-minute goal at the San Siro on February 14 — Tottenham’s fourth successive knockout-stage defeat without scoring.

The visitors have the worst defensive record of the top seven in Serie A by four goals, conceding 32 in the top flight so far. A fifth clean sheet in six games would guarantee Stefano Pioli’s players the prestige of becoming the first Milan side to reach the last eight of the Champions League since 2012.

Tottenham vs AC Milan lineups

Spurs’ injury picture remains unchanged ahead of this clash with midfield pair Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma both still out, alongside club captain Hugo Lloris.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is back in contention, after missing the first leg through suspension, with the Dane set to come straight into the starting XI.

Tottenham starting XI (3-4-3): Forster (GK) — Romero, Dier, Davies — Porro, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Perisic — Kulusevski, Kane, Son

Tottenham subs: Austin (GK), Emerson Royal, Lenglet, Sanchez, Sarr, Tanganga, Danjuma, Moura, Richarlison

Brahim Diaz was AC Milan’s match winner in the first leg, but the Spanish international is unlikely to start, due to a knee problem.

Stefano Pioli rested certain players for the 2-1 Serie A defeat at Fiorentina last weekend with Simon Kjaer and Alexis Saelemaekers set to rotate back in.

AC Milan starting XI (3-4-3): Maignan (GK) — Thiaw, Kjaer, Tomori  — Kalulu, Bennacer, Tonali, Hernandez — Saelemaekers, Giroud, Rebic

AC Milan subs: Tatarusanu (GK), Toure, Dest, Messias, Florenzi, Calabria, Bakayoko, Diaz, De Ketelaere
