Basketball: WCA boys cruise over Ashby


The fifth-ranked (Class A) West Central Area boys basketball team jumped out to a 33-7 lead against the Ashby Arrows and never looked back in a 76-49 win in Barrett.

WCA had all 14 players on its varsity team play and 10 players got in the scoring column.

Bryce Kjesbo led the WCA offense with 20 points, while Ben Bye had 16, Mitch Dewey and Cam Anderson had seven and Carter Kjesbo had six. Chase Nelson, Sam Hanson, and Marshall Dewey each had five points, while Brady Lindquist had three points and Owen Sanstead had two points.

Anderson and Bye each had seven rebounds, while Dewey had four, and Dewey had a team-high five steals and four assists. Anderson and Hanson finished with three assists, while Bryce Kjesbo had four steals.

Traeton Nelson led Ashby with 16 points while Easton Nelson had 11, Kellen Dahlen finished with 10, Jake Norby finished with nine and Fred Schlotfeld had three points.

WCA (17-3) plays at Wadena-Deer Creek (14-6) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday while Ashby (8-13) plays at Verndale (2-18) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
